Description

As a PhD student I imagined research in industry to be very different than in academia. That certainly holds true for many companies. However, in a cutting-edge field like quantum computing, there are startups which pursue research questions which are actually very similar to those discussed at universities. neQxt is such a startup that offers positions where the daily activities are similar to those found in academic settings while providing the advantages of working in the industry. Personally, I was a PhD specialised in quantum information theory, and thus, neQxt was the ideal place for me to join.

neQxt is a full-stack quantum computing company. As a spin-off from the Schmidt-Kaler group at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, it embodies decades of experience in the field of ion trap quantum computers. The startup spans the entire spectrum from hardware production to software development. This includes a theory team focused on quantum error correction and algorithms, where I found my niche within the company.

In my presentation, I will introduce the company neQxt, discuss my work in the theory team, and explain how I decided to join neQxt as a quantum error correction researcher.
