Strongly correlated electron systems host some of the most intriguing phenomena in condensed matter
physics, from unconventional superconductivity to quantum criticality and strange metallicity. But how
quantum are they, really? I will discuss how quantum information concepts, in particular the quantum
Fisher information, provide a way to quantify the quantumness of real materials. Focusing on the
strange metal state in heavy fermion compounds—where the conventional description in terms of
quasiparticles breaks down—I will show how this tool reveals high multipartite entanglement and
discuss possible implications.
