Description

PUNCH4NFDI unites Germany's astroparticle, particle, astrophysics, hadron, and nuclear physics communities to collaboratively develop and implement infrastructures that enable FAIR data management across the full research data lifecycle within an integrated digital ecosystem. Over its first funding phase, the consortium established the core building blocks of this ecosystem: the concept of Digital Research Products (DRPs) to capture datasets, software, workflows, and provenance in a reusable form; a Science Data Platform guiding researchers through preparation, retrieval, analysis, and publication; unified authentication via the PUNCH-AAI; and the federated Compute4PUNCH and Storage4PUNCH infrastructure, offering transparent access to heterogeneous HPC, HTC, and cloud resources. Reproducible execution of analysis pipelines is supported through REANA, and first tools and services, such as DRP Hub, have demonstrated the practical feasibility of this approach across PUNCH4NFDI's diverse communities.

Building on these foundations, PUNCH2.0 shifts the consortium's focus towards its users: consolidating and maturing the developments of the first phase, closing the gap between initial implementations and everyday research practice, and actively engaging researchers, students, and other community members in adopting reproducible, FAIR-compliant workflows. This contribution reviews the key outputs of PUNCH1.0 and outlines the strategic priorities for PUNCH2.0, including infrastructure consolidation and community adoption.

This work is supported by the DFG grant "NFDI 39/1" for the PUNCH4NFDI consortium.
