Description
A successful and effective global energy transition requires an enormous expansion of renewable energy technologies at the terawatt scale. Perovskite solar cells have high potential to address this challenge as they are offering high efficiency, cost-effective fabrication and material flexibility. Alongside performance, sustainable development also requires a consistent focus on scalability. In this contribution, I will present an overview on the research activities in our group. Our research thus follows a three-tiered approach including sustainability analysis, solar cell optimization and characterization and ageing methods. As guiding compass our sustainability analyses model solar expansion for cost-efficient climate protection, critically analyze materials and identifies priority measures. Building up on that we are developing printable carbon electrodes for maximum stability and are using a layer system for minimal losses and maximal lifespan. We then perform opto-electrical characterization, customized electronics enabling high-throughput characterization during aging and AI-supported big data analyses. To understand and verify our results we use drift-diffusion-based modelling. Overall, our integrated approach combines sustainability assessment, materials optimization and degradation analysis aiming to advance perovskite photovoltaics that are efficient and sustainably scalable, both economically and ecologically.
