Description
The investigation of superconducting Josephson junctions requires low-noise and configurable DC measurement setups capable of resolving superconducting features. To improve the experimental capabilities of a Bluefors® dilution refrigerator, a modular upgrade of the Fast Sample Exchange (FSE) puck was developed, focusing on flexible wiring, integrated filtering, and improved sample handling.
The puck incorporates a modular printed circuit board (PCB) architecture enabling the integration of different wiring configurations. A dedicated grounding PCB provides electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection during sample installation. Additional adapter PCBs enable the replacement of conventional wiring with up to 24 Thermocoax lines. Owing to their distributed attenuation and continuous thermalization, Thermocoax cables have been proposed for suppressing high-frequency noise while maintaining low thermal load [1]. Optional per-channel RC low-pass filters further extend the available filtering configurations according to the requirements of individual experiments.
The PCB designs are currently under fabrication, and experimental characterization remains future work. This modular approach aims to establish a configurable wiring infrastructure for fast-paced implementation and low-noise DC measurements of superconducting devices, including Josephson junctions.
